ZZ4 cam question
I have a 355 TPI and I want to put a ZZ4 cam in. My question is: with this cam what will i have to do with my computer so that it runs properly? I've heard that getting a custom burnt chip is the best way to go but i don't know who to talk to about getting one done. Thanks in advance
I've heard of people running this cam with the stock chip, and not having problems. I would still recommend getting a custom chip eventually to get the most out of your mods. I would be more concerned with valve spring bind and retainer to seal clearance, if your heads are stock. But if you get a chip, I hear that Ed Wright Fastchips are the best. There are also many people on this site that burn custom chips.
yea, i plan on doing the same swap into my 305.. im deff. gunna be lookin for a burned prom.. Its the best way to optimize your combination.. plus im putting on new heads and full exhaust.

i have it in my car. at idle and cruise it runs lean. and i have 24# injectors. on acceleration the o2 is fine. so some chip work for idle and cruise is needed.

Well i am pulling the motor as soon as it get it out of storage and when that is done i'll be puting on hooker headers, full 3in no cat exhaust, ported and polished intake manifold, and upping my gears from 2.73's to 3.42's. I already have a flowmaster 80series, and 24# injectors. So what should i do for a chip?

ZZ4 cam question
Your engine should run okay with the chip you have although it will not be optimum. A custom chip probably would not be optimum either. A chip burner would need to test and tune your particular combo to get the most power and driveability out of it. However,I have heard many times that Ed Wright/Fastchips is pretty good.
I put a ZZ4/miniram in my camaro and ran it awhile with the stock 305 chip. It seemed to run alright (no real complaints). I didn't run it at a track so I can't say how much better it is with the TPIS chip though.
Regardless of what chip you run in any combo remember that fuel pressure and crank timing are things you can still use as tuning tools.
