question about a tbi to tpi swap

ok well i want to swap my tbi system over to a tpi setup, my car is an 89 rs witha 305. my question is that i've heard that at some point the tpi setup was changed (switched to maf or something like that) my question is what year would the doner car have to be for it to be compatable with my engine? and also what type do i have anyways, and what year did they change the tpi? thanks in advance

This might help a little .... two of the differences that i know is they used MAF up until 89' the switched over to speed density in the 90' to 92' models . Also i think they eliminated the cold start injector (or 9 th injector) in 89' also. The safest bet is i would try to get a tuned port off of the same year of car (i didn't and ran into a few problems because of it) and also make sure if you have a 305, get the set up off of a 305 ..... the injectors are different between the two.

There's tons of info on this site for the conversion. I managed to do the swap, which heads suck and which ones work, what bin file to start with, learned to burn eproms, what was a waste of time and what gave good results, and tons more just by searching old topics. Every aspect of the swap has been covered leaving no question unanswered just by searching. Take your time, read everything here that's relavant, take notes and print the important threads, get some good schematics for your car, as well as the donor, and you'll be set. I kept a notebook just for the swap, and by the time it came around to actually doing the conversion, it was a breeze. The hardest part is learning what you'll need. Don't get discouraged when little things like finding the right type of O rings or tank removal come up, it's not really that bad. Good luck.
