Valve Spring Dilema
Valve Spring Dilema
I am now confused about what I should order. The other day I talked to someone at Comp Cams and he recommended the 981-16 springs. This is for an 88 Camaro L98, stock cam, stock heads with 1.6 RR's.
So I call to order the springs from Summit and he starts with the same questions until he gets to a question about the heads again. He asked something about being rotator heads (some being shorter than others). I had no idea what he was talking about. Needless to say I didn't get any springs ordered today.
Does anyone know what that's about?

well there was only one kind of stock heads as far as i know so just tell him u have stock heads and he should know what springs to use...or just order the part number the first guy told u...but i dont know what rotator heads are...
Make sure you buy the CompCams retainers, locks, and seats to go w/ those springs. They're a good option for stock-diameter replacements.
I'd also grab a good set of FelPro valvestem seals to put in while you have it apart.

I just helped put a set of 981 springs on a dood's car. The rotators I think are the stock hats that are on the retainers. We used the stock stuff. I think the stock stuff is heavier than aftermarket though. The 981's will fit fine.
