MAF vs. Speed Density

OK guys I'm kind of new to the TPI ball game. I just got a 90 IROC-Z with a LB9 5-speed last week. Correct me if I'm wrong, but starting in 1990 didn't GM go to speed density? What are the pro's and con's of each? I work with a guy that has a late 80's Vette that says you can do more with MAF. True?
