Idle is not steady...Why?

My idle is at 800 rpm and it goes up to 900 rpm. It goes up and down all the time. Is there any way to fix this?

Guessing here, but try:

Cleaning the Throttle-body/IAC passages
Readjusting IAC/TPS
Checking all vacuum lines for leaks

If you have a MAF, try tapping on
it when idling to see if it gets bad/better.

Put an ALDL scanner on it and see what
sensor readings you have and report back.

85MikeTPI did his ususal best in answering your question. I would first look for a vacuum leak. Since your engine last idled smoothly, what have you done??

800 sounds too high anyway. i thought they were supposed to idle at 700-1100 when warming up, then 500-600 (depending on year) when in closed loop mode?
