Bought Camaro Today--Need Your Advice For Idle Problem
Hi--I just went to pick up my 1986 camaro z28 tpi 5.0 auto tranny.
here are the facts about the engine--
has:
Wells SU-145 MAF
crane cam(dont know model--prev owner forgot..)
Superchip
AFPR(at idle it says around 34psi? my uncle says this is normal--should it be around 45 psi or so? He set it that low and said it should be there)
K&N Airfilters
Flowmaster Exhaust
160 Deg. Thermo
Platinum Plugs
problem:
CODE 33
After i set the ign. timing i got a CODE 43 along with the CODE 33.
The car has a little miss at idle but other than that does good until you put it in gear. When you drop it in gear if you dont give it a little gas it WILL die, and if it doesnt die and you give it gas it seems like there is NO power whatsoever, but once u get past 2000RPM power comes back. I did encounter this though--occasionaly u can give it gas and the engine does NOT change rpms at all--even floored--then somehow it fixes itself and runs ok. the car did overheat today but it lacked enough water and that fixed it. it seems like all the power is there for about 20 seconds right when you start it up but then after that, it doesnt seem to have as much power. My uncle said the cylinders were "washed down" with fuel and that changing the oil would bring compression back up, I dont know if this has anything to do with it dieing in gear at idle.
Please Give Me Any Idea Of Whats Going On Here...
Thank You So Much!

It is probably rich. Check the plugs for being fouled. I also think your fuel pressure is low. The book calls for 41-47 psi for most TPI years. I would set it at the low end of the scale to start. I also think you should either learn to burn your own chips or use a stock one. Try to get hold of a scanner to read your data. Make sure everything is where it should be. I also think your thermostat is wrong for you. Use a 180* minimum. It is hard to say exactly what is going on with your engine. Run a compression test, leak down test. I would change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor just for PM. Do you know the person you bought the car from? Did you get a too good to be true deal on it?
