Question about timing?

I have a 350 rebuilt with heads and cam. I was wondering about idle RPM, mine sits at 800 and idles till it almost dies at around 500. When I try to adjust using the distibutor it doesnt seem to do anything at all or very little. So I shouldnt have to adjust the screw on the TB to get my idle up right? So from what I just read in another post I need to burn the prom to set my idle. Am I even close on this or is something going bad.
Thanks, Gary

You need to reprogram to change the idle
speed, but not to fix it.

You go thru the IAC adj procedure in the
Tech Section to setup the TPS and IAC
to idle the car within the EPROMs command.

If your cam is too big, you may need to
do both..

The EPROM controls the idle Spark Advance
and does a fine job in the MAP system
like you should have.. Just make sure
your base timing is set correctly (maybe
raised up to 8 or 10deg) and then work
on the IAC and TPS..

I believe the speed density cars have a non-adjustable TPS.
Someone correct me if wrong.
