Is this normal?

I'm trying to figure out if my fuel pump is going bad or not. I've got an 89 IROC-Z with the L98 in it. Alright, here's the thing: I turn the key to the run position, I can hear the fuel pump buzzing (I think that's what it is, it's coming from the left rear tire area) for about 2-5 seconds, then it stops until I turn the key and start it up. Well, tonight I noticed that the buzzing would resume when the car is running - that's the part I'm worried about if it's normal or not, if it's supposed to continue. That happens the whole time I'm idleing, can't really tell if it keeps going when I'm moving. Then it shuts off a few seconds after the car is turned off.
