TPI to Carb??

Hey I'm new here. I just bought an 88 Formula 350 for 300!! Well here is the problem. Some guy before me took the injection off and put a 4bbl carb on it... I don't know why maybe somebody here could enlighten me since I am new to cars in general. I had to put a new carb on it cuz the other one was run without an air filter and there was so much dirt and stuff in there it wouldn't really even start well. I put an edelbrock performer series on it. It's a 600 4bbl. Ok heres the issue: I give it gas and it dies while most of time either blowing a big puff of smoke out the choke or ball of flame. I would like to put the injection back on but I just don't know how. There are injector wires hanging all over the place under the hood. This car needs engine work, but the body and interior are excellant. No rust anywhere(that's an accomplishment for being in illinoise)

Thanx to all that respond!!

your best bet to go back to tpi would be to get Painless wirings kit specifically for the tpi setup....yes i know you have the wires already under the hood but you dont know what has gotten into the connections since they have been unplugged.....obviously the prev owner had no clue what he was doing since he ran the car with no air cleaner....so who knows what else he did....but you will need different heads for a tpi.....im using the corvette aluminum l98 heads on my build....ive had mine ported and polished......they make some good power....if you need some more tips just leave a post here or email me......the painless wiring kit part number in jegs is 764-60202

Ok thanx. Do you have any suggestion of where to get the rest of the parts besides the wiring? Like the intake manifold and the fuel rail, computer....and so on??

Put a post on the parts f/s board...i use www.chitownracing.com for mine but im from chicago.....a lot of guys will have these parts...otherwise try ebay.....i would reccomend that if you are going to spend the money get the Accel Ramjet set....comes with plenum, runners, and manifold.....its about the same price as a new stock tpi set would cost but it allows for more upgrades as it flows more air.....so depending on your budget......use one of these.....any questions just put a post here.....the Jegs part numbers for the Accel parts are....Manifold - 310-74197 Plenum and Runners - 310-74196....as far as the comp goes most auto parts stores carry stock computers and you can purchase a chip to upgrade your stock comp.....

If your going to spend the money to reinstall FI on the car, I wouldnt waste time with the stock system.

I think you you better reread the post before you say its a "stock system". The Accel super ram kit is far from stock....and besides that the harness, manifold and runners only add up to about 1300 bucks.....far from 2200...and the stealth ram has no upgrade capabilities.....stealthram is good but i beleive he said he WANTED to go back to TPI......

Easy there. I wasnt responding to your post, I was responding to his. Im well aware the SuperRam isnt a stock system, I was just giving the guy some options. Im not sure what you mean by upgrade capabilities, but Holley claims the HSR flows 300cfm out of the box, and there is plenty of room for porting if you modify the lower ports for a taller gasket. By the way, the HSR kit I mentioned actually includes the programmable ECM/wiring. The SuperRam price you listed was for the base and plenum/runners only, if you want the computer/harness, add an extra $899. Hmm, $2100...

Ok, I'm not sure what I'm thinking now. I got the carb running a lot better. Would a better manifold with a bigger carb and a blower be more expensive than the injection?? What are the performance differences?

well obviously you would make more power with a blower.....but you have to up your head gasjets and find out what kind of compression you have.....blowers hate higher compression ratios because thats basically thier job......if you really want to make a blower effective id build a motor just for that.....as far as prices....blower is about 2000 so right around the TPI or Stealth Ram.....
