I got the valve covers from a local speed shop, they were $130 and will fit roller rockers. They are GM performance covers, you can probably get them from sdpc2000.com.

I can't wait to see what sort of power you get. Not many people are running those heads, so it'll be great to see your results. That engine looks great.

400?! Don't sell yourself short...That's at least a 420-430 hp combo in my opinion. Your build specs are definitely comparable to the GM ZZ430 and that made 430hp. You might even make a little more.

I don't know. There are some guys with similar build ups with AFRs that are nowhere near the 400hp mark. There's 1 or 2 with 383s and AFRs making over 400hp. Now if you're talking crank horsepower, then I would more likely to agree.

thanks for the compliments.

The trans is a T56 out of a 97 camaro. The rear has the SLP take off posi with some strange pro 4.10 gears. Need to start saving for a built rear.

JMatlock88, with his stealth ram motor made 380rwhp with a comp XE 224/224 cam and AFR 195s with the 700r4(I think). My heads will flow similar and I have a slightly larger cam. I will be runing the the T56, so probably less dirve train loss. But 400rwhp may be a little on the high side, but anything near that and I will be happy.

I'm going to have to agree with Jim85IROC on this one. 400 hp at the crank is possible with that application. But you might come up short using those heads. I haven't heard any good things about those heads. You should throw some AFR 190's or 195's and you could see 400hp at the crank with no problem, maybe even 425. Just my 2 cents though. Let me know the numbers when you get it in.

Right... crank horsepower is what I meant. That's what GM rates their crate engines at.

The heads I have flow just over 260cfm at .500", right there with the AFR 195s. They seem to be a hot commodity, I had to call 7 places before I found a vender that had some in stock.

Well, we will see when I get it on the dyno. But I will be disappointed if it only dynos around 340rwhp.

I'm anxious to see your results. Those heads are some of the lowest priced aluminum heads available, and if you make good numbers with them, it'll certainly save me a ton of money. Their flow numbers seem pretty good, but flow isn't everything. It'll be nice to finally see some dyno numbers with these heads. I think Mark Shields has them but never dyno'd the car.

Good luck dude.

You wouldn't have the P/N by chance? I tried to look at SDPC and could not find it. They have a set of covers, but no pic and the P/N was CC230. Thanks...

BTW, motors lookin sweet!!

The motor looks great!

My buddy and I just finished a ProAction Alum 200cc StealthRam 355 also. It is identical to your combo except is running supercomps LTs, and 560 598 lift, and dual 3" side-exit exhaust. It was brought to life by an Ed Wright custom program this past wednesday ($350 and probably worth every dime).

It will be broken in soon and we'll let you know how it turns out. We plan to take the cars down to the dyno together to find out. It will be a good indication of the differences among these head choices.

I didnt catch whether you were running SD or MAF. I cant comment on MAF cars, but I can tell you that my SD first pull with stock tuning yielded 280rwhp. There will be a lot of potential in tuning that can be realized. (Turned out to be about 100rwhp for me)

I am keeping my RS badges and everything. It will just look like a well kept thirdgen.

Has Ed write dyno tuned that car? I am running a speed density setup. How does it sound, I am running a flowmaster 80 series and was wondering how loud it will be.

Marc's car was not dyno tuned. The dyno tune for my car was $500. Marc's mail-order chip was $350. Ed Wright used a lot of the data that he logged from my car for Marc's chip, so Marc's should be tuned well. His car sounds insane, period. It is basicly unmuffled (1 chambers are not really mufflers hehe) exhaust dumping out the sides. WOW...really puts my car's dB factor to shame. Then again, loud doesnt equal power.

Well no numbers yet, but a whole lot closer. This has been taking me forever, I am a full time engineering student so I only get about 1 day a week to work on the car. I have had a few things side track me in this engine swap. Found a set of two tone 4th gen power seats for $220, couldn't pass that up. Then pulling out the stock seats I found how disgusting my 12 year old carpet was so I replaced that. Next, the blue/grey interior panels did not match the new interior, so I pulled them all out and repainted them to black. But this weekend I should have the engine in the car and maybe running (how many times have I said that :rolleyes ). But Trust me you guys will be the first to know when I get the car on the dyno.

The trouble you are gonna have is going to be in the PROM. I could help you out a bit (being's I have the same cam) I know I'm making over 400 at the crank and mine is LTR style TPI!!!! You should be to make 400 to the ground if you go with Long-tube headers, T-56 w/good clutch, get the PROM straight, and depending on what your heads flow. Looks great!

I broke down and got an Ed Write custom chip. I wanted to be able to just start it up and have a fairly well running engine. I have tuner cat and a burner that I used for my last engine, so I will be doing tuning on top of his chip. I just don't have the time to spend tuning the car from the start. Anyway I am pretty anxious to get the car running.

1bad91Z.... How does the cam sound? How does it run on the low end and what kind of mileage are you seeing? I nearly went with the 230/236 cam, which is what comp recommended, but I thought it might be a little bumpy for my taste. Also how did the install for the hooker LTs go. I may leave that for a future mod, but for now the SLP 1 3/4 should be good. The heads are advertised to flow 260cfm at .500, with the 200cc intake runners.

I am running the Comp XR276HR cam. It does have a lumpy idle & sounds great. I am running Hooker LT's & dual 3" Spintech Pro Street muffs & it's loud & awesome.

Looks good, and I do have a stock TPI bracket. if you want it pay for shipping and you can have it. I've got an extra cause the system I bought had one with it.

Close, I just got back from vacation in Cabo. Hope to have it running by this weekend. I just have to run some vacuum lines and hopefully I won't have any wiring problems from swapping from TBI to TPI.

I think they are supposed to flow a little more. But I have seen no dyno numbers for the pro topline heads, but people that have used them seem to love them. Hopefully I can get some numbers in the coming weeks.

It's a metallic red color. I already had the yellow plug wires and wanted a somewhat unique color. Seems most people go with red. I am running a 4.10 gear with a T56 trans.

Engine: Than
Transmission: You!
Cool, let us know how it goes this weekend. If it runs half as good as it looks, you should have a beast on your hands!

Good Luck!

Update..

I have everything hooked up (except the hose from the manifold to radiator) all I have a question about my water pump over on the tech board. When I get the answer to that I will fill it with oil and coolant and hopefully it will start right up. I swapped from TBI to TPI so I am anticipating having some wiring issues to work out, but everything seems to be in the correct place now. Here is a pic I just took, motor does not look as good as it did on the stand though.
