could a bad starter blow fuse

I've got this problem that almost everytime I start the car, she blows a the gauge fuse, I did a search and checked EGR, AIR, and anything else I could think of, and didn't find anything that seemed related. I've had an oil leak that looks like its coming from directly above the starter, and the starter itself will grind and click and make all kinds of nasty sounds when the car is warm, and that's when it blows the fuse. If I let the car sit for a couple of hour, the starter sounds good and the fuse doesn't blow, so as said above. Could a bad starter be shorting out the wires, or maybe the oil is heating up and shorting them out. I have no clue. Please Help

The starter itself isn't fused, it's direct fed straight from the batt positive.

The solenoid trigger circuit is fused, but via a fusible link in the case of my '82 and '88 wiring diagrams.

I'd rather have my ***** pounded flat with a wooden hammer than troubleshoot electrical problems...good luck.
