those with miniram?

what are you running at idle? with out adjusting just plugging the custom chip and letting things run the car is at roughly 1100 idle. it seemed a bit high but ran smooth. i dropped it down to right under 1,000 so it didn't seem so high and now it acts like it's misfiring trying to stay running.

what's the average idle your running and what's the determining factor or part that would make it idle at a certain degree?

My car has a miniram and my motor idles at 750 rpm no problem. I would set your iac control and go from there...you can find out how in the tech article section.

Your idle has absolutely nothing to do with the MiniRam. With a stock cam the MiniRam easily idles at stock RPM settings. Your idle RPM is a function of setting the throttle blades using the throttle stop screw and a function of the PROM.

First, check to make sure that your throttle return spring is working.
Second, make sure you don't have a vacuum leak.
Third, hook up a scan tool and slowly close the throttle blades using the throttle stop screw. You want to attain an IAC motor count of about 10-20. You should stop and restart the car between each adjustment since this changes the TPS reading. NOTE that this ASSumes that whoever did your chip setup your idle with a good value.

I have a very lumpy cam (230/245) and idle at 900rpms.

i would hope so..........i'll check it though!

thanks guys. the chip is a stage 6, the cam is a zz409 and the intake is a miniram III

all of it was matched and purchased through tpis. it's just when everything was running it seems that 1100 is a bit high. then again i'm used to my really low stock L98 idle.

Currently I am running a Miniram with ported Aluminum ZZ3 heads (L98) but a stock cam. I want to get some times first before I swap the cam. But, the car runs very smoothly and I have mine idling @ 700 rpm.

When I change the cam (next winter), then I will need to re-evaluate my idle speed.

But 1,100 rpm is far too high for your ZZ409 cam. Maybe if your were running a solid cam with 248+ duration and .600+ lift would you need an idle speed that high.

Send the chip back to TPIS and tell them to lower the idle speed, it's all you can do. Tell them you prefer around 800ish. Also, when you get the new eporm from TPIS, you should set your IAC to just under where you want it to idle (ie. 750ish if idleing 800ish)

My cam is BIGGER than the ZZ409 cam and my car will idle at 800rpms (I have it set to 900 so I get more vacuum and so it doesn't sound so obnoxious). If TPIS set your idle at 1100rpms then they are smoking crack.

Definitely follow what Glenn and I said about setting your idle. You need to reset your IAC for the new idle in the chip. The best way to do this is with a scan tool in order to ensure that you have the minimum IAC counts. One thing that most people think is that you can just set the idle speed in the chip and you are done. That is completely wrong. You need to set the throttle blades on the throttle body close enough so that the ECM has enough movement in the IAC to control the idle.

No problems with mine. MiniRam on a ZZ4 (208°/221°) with AFR heads. Idles at 675 rpm out of gear- 650 in gear. I'm running my own chip though. I have my IAC set at 25 when it's fully warmed up.

I am sure that KandiedZ is starting to wish he'd got into eprom burning instead of getting an eprom from TPIS. If he ever gets into it, he may even give himself a "boot or two" in the rump for ever buying that TPIS eprom.

KandiedZ, don't feel that you MUST stay with your TPIS eprom and never get into eprom burning. I am positive that if you ever got into eprom burning that you will find it is far easier than you ever imagined. I know plenty of people that bought expensive custom eproms, only to be STUNNED when they finally got a chance to read it and find out how little was really done on their custom eprom.

Just keep it in the back of your mind as you deal with TPIS in "fixing" your eprom - that you have alternatives.

(At this point, I expect Tim will give you his personal experiences with TPIS).

thanks guys. actually the car runs very well with the chip. it's just a few issues that need to be worked out.

found out last night that my secondary (in-line) pump was cutting out and it wasn't helping to all the confusion. hope to fix it all today. thanks again.

I know a lot of people that have had bad luck with inline fuel pumps and ultimately end up upgrading the fuel pump in the tank.

i have both for good measure.........but, yes i've known quite a few myself. it wasn't the pump itself. the main positive terminal (post) somehow snapped off so the connection was very weak. i'll just have to permanently affix the wire.
