Monthly TPI tune up

Every month I change the oil and oil filter on my car like a good little boy.
I also reset my IAC and TPS and I check the timing.

Going out and working on the car is an escape for me.
I love it.

Today was that day!
Changed the oil and oil filter.
Checked the timing.
Reset the IAC and TPS.

But today I heard something.

tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat

Damn.

A loose rocker.

Great! I get to spend more time with my baby!

Instead of just finding the one loose rocker I decide to do both banks of rockers since Saturday is the shootout at Darlington Dragway.
Can't hurt can it?
As I reset the valvelash I notice a few rockers seemed a little lose and several seemed OVER-tightened.
WTF Ragtop?!
I proceed to kick myself in the a$$ several times for my poor quality worksmanship.
Stoopid head.
I finished the valvelash and put on the valve covers.
I bought a Wire Loom/Separator set awhile ago and put it on real quick as well.

I set the timing at 6*.
Reset the IAC and TPS sensors and let the car idle for a little bit.
Put my tools away and washed my grubby hands quick.

I grabbed my wallet and a hat since it's a BEAUTIFUL day and the top was down.

Upon dropping it in reverse and letting the clutch out I immediately felt a difference!
I headed out to the highway and put the car thru it's paces!
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
Slamming gears like ****!!

HOLY JEEBUS!!

I can honestly say that this is the BEST my car has EVAR run!
As I pulled onto the highway from a stop sign I put my foot thru the floor all the way thru 1st and into 2nd.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!

Just goes to show that the simplest things can make the difference.
I obviously had a couple rockers too loose and a few too tight.
I'm thinking a valve or two wasn't closing all the way.

I'm gonna go drive my car some more.

adjustment

When you set the lifters, you backed them off till they ticked then tighten till it stopped ticking then tightened them how much? I was told a full 360 degree turn. Is that what you did?

Thanks

I tightened the rocker nut by finger while spinning the pushrod with my other hand.
When I started to feel resistance on the spinning pushrod I put the wrench on the nut and turned it 3/4 turn.
I then used the hex-key to tighten the lock nut down.
Once the lock nut was turned down all the way I turned the lock nut AND the rocker nut 1/4 turn.
This tightens them down real well.

Make sense?

I've read multiple posts here on TGO on how to do valvelash with the hydraulic lifters and I've read what the Chiltons and Haynes manuals say.

I've heard anywhere from 3/4 of a turn to 1 1/4.

I figured 1 full turn would be okay.

Seems to have worked great!
