Did the 87 LB9 auto have a speed gov?

I thought I've read that only the V-6 and TBI 305's, had the VSS speed gov on them. Well today at the track my car fell on its face at the end of the 1/4 just like my ZX2 does when it hits its speed gov. The RPMs are at 4500-5000 in the trap range. Any ideas here? Will the car shut itself off if the fuel pressure drops? I'm stumped.

A good friend of mine has an 87' Z28 LB9 A4 car, it used to be governed at 120 MPH. I gave him the stock EPROM out of my 86' and it fixed the problem. His car was the first I had ever heard of such a thing. I'm assuming it is because his car came equipped w/ 15 inch wheels and non speed rated tires. HTH

I bet my car that is my problem, I guess I had better put the speedo gears for my 3.73 swap in. Just for info I went from 2.73's to 3.73's out back

Sounds about right then, another friend of mine had a 91' RS. When we swapped in 3.73's & a posi - it would shut down around 90 MPH. After we installed the correct speedometer gears, it was back to being limited to somewhere around 115 - 118 MPH.

Yes, if you got the car new without speed rated tires it had the speed limiter implemented...Lawyers saw to that, all of the liability suits going around then, and indeed still today.

ahhhh i have a stock 87 Z, and i have taken her past 120 (125), and when my dad bought the car, took her to 140... never did after that... You might be experiencing the choking limit of TPI... I never heard of a speed limiter on any thirdgen other then TBI cars.

Thats not my problem My 1-2 and 2-3 shift are both at 6000 Rpm on the stock tach. The car is stumbing like it is speed governed at 120 on my speedo and my real speed of 90 something and 4500 RPM on the tach.

I have taken my car to 120 before. When it was bone stock. No problems going higher than that. Plenty of pedal. I did go slightly over 120 but I am not sure the exact amount.
