TPI Swap fuel pump question
Okay i finally got the car to crank over and dropped the distributor in the motor. The car fires up and sounds good. Problem is, it only stays running for like 5 seconds. I know the fuel pump is running cause i opened up the gas cap and listened while my friend was cranking it over. I also know i have to change the fuel pump in the tank because the TBI i had only operates on like 12 lbs of pressure vs. 37 lbs for TPI, but shouldn't the car at least stay running at idle speed without changing the fuel pump? Or won't the car stay running until the fuel pump is changed over? Plus the gas in the tank is over a year old so i was wondering if that might be it. Help anyone???

im just going to stab in the dark here and say the motor starts because it gets an innitial squirt of fuel then dies from a lean condition.
my reasoning is because 12 PSI at those dinky TPI injectors just isnt enough to keep a motor going, no matter what RPM. there just isnt enough fuel coming out.
thats my guess, since no one else has, and good luck with it. I didnt even think a TPI car would START without freaking 45PSI to the injectors.

You need to change the pump and the sending unit. I'm doing the same swap right now in my RS (L03 to L98). You dont have to be concerned about volume (so the stock fuel lines are ok), but you do have to be concerned about pressure (16 psi vs 40+ psi).
