Secuirty chip problems (on key) ***URGENT***
Heya, I can't get my car to start, my security light wasn't coming on at all so i removed the steering wheel and pulled the ignition cylinder and saw that a wire was broken off (theirs two wires, both small and white and one was completely broken off). I tried taking another piece of wire and connecting both of them to the proper place in the steering column for a temporary fix and now the security light stays on.
I think one is bad inside the cylinder, because one is not giving any juice. Im not sure if the other one is a ground or not. Now my question is it possible for a workaround temporarily to disable it until I can buy a new cylinder and key? I need my car tomorrow morning and im desperate her. Please help! Thanks (its a v6, standard, 91 RS).
I know this doesn't belong on the TPI board but this board gets more replies. Please help!

Measure the resistance of the chip in your key. Go buy a resister of the same value. It has to be almost exactly the same value. Follow the two tiny wires down the steering column untill you find the small disconnect. Un-plug this disconnect and jumper the two wires on the harness connnector with the resister you bought.
You have just bypassed the ignition cylinder. Your car isn't protected anymore. It can be stolen rather easily now. Replace the ignition cylinder when you get a chance.

Ok I had my wife go to radio shack and the key read 1476 owms. They didn't have the exact resistor so I got a 1.5k -ohm resistor. I tried it on the car and it was a no go. Im not even quite sure if im doing it right, I know I have the right wires. Do both wires need juice going through them? If so which wire is it as they are both the same color. If not where do I plug the wire that has no juice since my wire broke from the cylinder (currently they are both broken off). If not is it possible for me to just take the chip off the key and hook it up to the vats system? If so what needs to touch which wires and which one has power etc.. Appreciate the help guys need this done tonight. Thanks.
Is it possible you set off the timer on the computer before you had the resistor hooked all the way up? It'll add 4 minutes every time you turn the key to the on position. Other than that, it should've worked. You don't need to add juice to the circuit. the computer supplies it's own, and it's only a few volts and miliamps. Did you double-check the resistor yourself before installing it? you've only got a 1% variance, or so.

Thanks for the help guys. I figured it out and I now understand what you meant by those four minutes. My solonoid on my starter was going bad to begin with I got VATS bypassed successfully. Tomorrow im gonna go pick up a starter for my car and it should run great again. Thanks for all your help, dunno what I would have done if not for you guys, thanks again.
