ED.....
I can't believe I am going to reply to this. First off, I am not at all mad. OK. I'm not throwing F-bombs around or acting like an idiot. This morning when my wife and kid was following me out to drop my car off and my little 2 yr old was waving out the window to me while driving beside me on a two lane highway, and some azzhole came flying up behind us, and passed her on the wrong side of the road and then cut her off, Now trust me my friend that was me getting mad. This is nothing, and at best is my every Sunday Italian family get together heated argument.
LOL.
Look I am not trying to be a hard azz, and if you would read my words you would realize, that I no-where said I was happy with my setup or am done with it. Ask Corkvette1, last night we spoke on the phone for 1 hr with me telling him there was more in the setup, and him saying no way dude. Believe me I won't be happy with the setup, if I get a 10.5 that you talk about. Its called the bug. But if that ET doesn't come, then fine....I have only had this setup together for ~2 months now. Obviously you don't have the misfortune of living in the new rain forest (PA). So my time being able to tune the car has been limited. For two weeks now I have been waiting for an opportunity to crank the FP up, and retune the part throttle, then redo WOT, and see what the PW are then, and if it helped. Then its back down to the dyno again, to find what is the best AFR.
Not a bone in my body could agree with you more about us both running exact same times, with two different tunes. I contribute that to the fact that both of us are static and dumping probably the same amount of fuel into the cars, hence making about the same power/ETs.
Should I be condemed for just getting the car together and learning what it needs? I think you would agree with me that is hardly fair.
Corky did not have the scanner/programming equipment or background into tuning until he met me. There is no doubt, anyone with an argument to pick in the engine talk, better have both guns loaded and a spare if you try to do battle with him in that department. But anyways, we are both learning this setup.
I will be sure to post the results if I can get the PW down, and regain some control over the PWs.
PLease understand that just because I may see some advantaged of MAF or like it better than SD, that is really a moot point. I never said that HAwk, would be able to make more power with MAF than SD. As glenn too pointed out, for the begineer, MAF would be better suited for him, till he gets his feet wet, was the only advantage I pointed out. (now I am racking my mind to think of something else I might have said, LOL)
I'm sorry for the crap I might have thrown out at you mods. For that I appologize.
Just try to understand where I am coming from. There is nothing wrong with a little check and balance system and opposing opinions to let people make up their own minds. The reason for my appology and a remommondation for a truse is because I think its gone from MAF vs SD to Mods vs Jesse, in which case its fun to agrue, but its too easy to get off the real reasons we all come here.
With that I am going to bed....you guys wear a man down.

Okay this is way more than I ever expected. However I am also misinformed about my current system. I didn't know you could use the intake that i got now for a tpi system. And as for all the arguing, ask yourselves this "Who gives a Damn" I asked a simple question and since im not one of those people who tries to make there engine put out 600 hp and then say im better than everyone else because i did it. I just want to make my car perform well and smoke the living hell outta ricers. I have discovered a new plan and it is to pay $6,000 bucks for an installed 2002 LS1 with LS6 heads and a T56 6-speed tranny with all belt driven accesories, and the rear brakes converted to the new LS1 style brakes. Just a matter of saving money and then driving out to Arizona to get it done. So this will be my future Signature. 1991 LS1 WS6 Firebird Formula 6-speed. Now doesn't that look better than saying 1991 305 tpi ws6 formula. I sure as hell think so. Thx for all the input and also SKI you are the absolute man IMHO.

Hawk...good luck...the LS1 is a great combo...
I think that you have seen here that opinions vary on the differences between MAF and SD for controlling the induction setup...but the actual intake is the same from 86-88 and 89-92 (I believe those are the break years).
Don't make any assumptions about your question...this thread turned into a great opportunity to discuss these differences and I hope it helped you a bit...obviously, right? After all, I am happy you decided to keep the 3rd gen and not buy a Mustang after winessing the above exchange
Good luck...

So far, what's not being said,
is, to go as fast as 11's with a MAF,
as demonstrated here, takes
max'ing out the timing to the limits of the system.
Run the injectors static.
Cut the screens out of the MAF.
Cut the cooling fins out, out of the MAF.
And I believe disconnecting the Knock sensor.
Then blend some home brew gas that is highly detonation resistant.
If you just lock the timing at the systems max, run the injectors static, and gut the MAF, it doesn't matter what for ecm or system your using.
I don't see where it proves anything.
BTW, just so that it's not taken wrong, I'd say the same thing about a SD system tuned the same way..

Grumpy,
What you don't understand or care to realize is, and I will make is very LOUD for you to maybe get this time:
I HAVE ONLY HAD MY SETUP TOGETHER FOR TWO MONTHS NOW!
I think where I am at is a pretty nice accomplishment, for doing all the work in my garage, all the tuning myself. Believe me I race with some guys that have boo-ku bucks and let me say, they all paid ALOT MORE for their setups from Lingenfelter, Cartek, Vette Doctors, ect ect and still aren't where I am after only 1 month.
So before you be-little my sucess with pointing fingers, as you said in this section, so I will bring it up here as you said it was appropriate here. You have a turbo charged GN that I have seen guys run 9s with. And your best is only 13s. Please don't try to cut others work apart when you yourself might have a great grasp on how an ecm works, but getting track results is what most of us want.
And how does cutting the MAF screen or fins out compare to running a SC in rehlm of power adders? I don't think it does. Or even for that matter, some race gas, since my compression is up around 12:1 on paper.
Comon Grumpy I go to the track at every chance I get and there are guys, as the last time I was there, parked next to a rail, that was running 8.0xx at 150+ MPH and his entire clan could not believe my car was running where it was on all motor. they took down every detail of it and my phone number also. Sorry, but I'm afraid those guys and many others that comment on it, recognize a job well done. And that is because, they like me, put the time into actually doing what we say.
If what you say in your last post was as easy as you make it out to be, then why isn't every car on here in the 11s? Or even 12s? Surely you have the answer to that since your sitting up there scratching your head, and surely trying to go faster. Are you saying that with a perfect tune as you have, with my motor, it would be slower? No thanks, I'll take where I am now and you can continue saying I have a poor tune. But remember I am only TWO MONTHS into this setup, with 90% of that time in the garage do to rain. hmmmmm Wonder where I will be at by summers end? I will send you the time slip when I get it
And oh yeah, my gutted MAF, maybe you should try it. LOL
And oh yeah, the knock sensor works perfectly...take a look at the logs in my DIY post....no knock...even with all that timing...hmmm? Race gas no doubt...
But timing does play a big role and reducing my timing at the track took my MPH from 123 down to 119...so say what you like, but remember people I'm sure wonder why your car is not as fast as the other GNs and you have the nerve to point out my setups flaws, after 2 months time, and your probably on 2yrs + with the so-called perfect tune? I would be imbarressed to call anyone out with that track record. Hell my 350 with alltop broken rings and all motor went 12.8 all day.

Well, i think it's obvious why this is being locked. If you guys want to bicker go off list.
FWIW ski, i can't believe you have reduced yourself to the 'i'm faster than you bit again' when any schmuck with a checkbook can do EXACTLY what you did, since all you did was copy your best friends car. Given that you have 'lost' 25% of your pulsewidth from one day to the next, i think it's clear who understands what about tuning and the ECM, and who is lucky to have found the right set-up to copy.
