I recently installed the holley Stealth Ram on my 400 small block motor
I also installed at the same time a 700r4 tranny and 3200 stall converter Precision Industries converter
the motor is in a 81 firebird that I do not know what it weighs I assume it is up there
the car has a 400 small block with 9.8:1 compression
Brodix aluminum heads -8 2.055 intake 1.60 exhaust
cam is a comp grind .535 lift 224 duration at .050 Intake
.565 lift 230 duration on the exhaust side
I think the lobe sep is 112
4.11 gears in a Ford 9''
car has DFI
30 lbs injectors
a Bosch 720HP fuel pump
1 3/4 hooker coated headers into true duals with dynomax mufflers
car hasn't been tuned
the car pulls good till about 5200 where it falls on its face I think
the car ran 8.6 in the 1/8 at 76mph No lockup
the converter is a lockup converter but isn't locking up for some reason that has yet to be determined
so I lost a few mph there
this car previously had a tpi intake on it
so i think that the cam might have something to do with it's power falling off?
or maybe this thing just weighs too much ?
give me some feedback please
thanks

I know that this might be slightly off topic...
Zenger (and to others): By no means am I trying to start a flame war or anything else, but why is it that some/most people seem to complain about the lack of performance after installing the HSR when they haven't even done any tuning?
I'm saying this because a lot of you guys seem like very informed people when it comes to cars and mechanics. Therefore, I wouldn't expect posts that suggest the HSR for a lack in performance when nothing's been done to tune it.
I've read the latest GMHTP (with the dyno and 1/4 mile runs), and I've also read essams' (awesome/in depth) thread. The HSR MAKES power, and will make more with tuning. So, come on... tune the car, and if it doesn't "make power", then make an issue of it.
My Camaro just got back on the road (5 hours ago) with the HSR installed. It hasn't been tuned at all, but FWIW, after driving it on wet roads, the thing will spin it's tires and rev to 6000 rpm before you know it... and it's only got a ZZ4 cam. Granted, there's a lot more testing and tuning to do. But I'm not going to start pointing flaws at the HSR off the bat..

well I am not pointing any flaws yet
I am moderately new to EFI and was seeking some help
will report after it gets on a dyno

When you are used to the rpm dropoff of the TPI @ 4800 or so & you put on a HSR it opens up a whole new can of worms above 5500 rpm. Ask me how I know.Originally posted by tpi_roc

Original poster: You need to tune the car! Simple as that. The TPI and HSR require 2 different ways of operation and to assume that the HSR will run off a TPI's calibrations is ludicrous. The HSR flows up to 6000 rpm in my car where its pulling in 242 g/sec. My stock TPI on the same motor maxed at 194 g/sec..... Somthing tells me that I gained a lot of power up top. On factory programming it feels good but it will only get faster the more that I tune.
Lemme tell ya a little story... Last year with the motor in my sig. I ran a dissappointing first run of 14.4 @ 94mph or somthing. This was a modded motor !!! And I was running close to what I was before the mods!! So I burned 1 chip and went to the racetrack about 3 weeks later (deeper into the hot summer) That day I ran a 13.732 @ 99mph. Quite a gain just from tuning...
My HSR install seemed to be awful at first... I burned a chip and some of the lowend and midrange power came back. We'll see if we can squeeze some more out of it.
