new to TPI, need cheap mods...

I searched for some cheap TPI mods but am still a little confused.

I'm picking up my '87 IROC w/305TPI on Saturday...

I am curious, aside from intake, what are some REALLY cheap mods I can do to the TPI system, just to give it a tiny bit more HP?

I'm planning on headers and such, but I'm looking for some really low dollar mods here.

Thanks guys.

ok, i got a 87... ill help ya out
#1- If ya dont really have an attachment to the chrome accents, get rid of them ASAP.
#2- you dont need an intake. The camaro snorkle works very well, just cut out the bottoms, and drop in some KN's-- you will be good to go. If you want, you can also make a ram air set up. People have said that rain will get sucked in and will drench your filters, but then other people have said thats BS... I just cut out the bottoms and left it at that.
#3- Port the plenum. If you have a dremmel(if you dont, it would be good idea to get one.. its an awesome tool), get some bits and start taking out the EGR walls right behind the TB and open up the openings to the runners. That will help air flow into the engine. You wont need runners right away, so dont worry about that. (If ya need pictures, ill email them to ya.. but there not great)
#4- Lose what you dont need. I didnt check where you live, but if you dont have emmisons, you can get rid of the AIR system, and the cat. Diet for these cars is a good idea. Just dont strip out the whole car. Also, cut back on the baccon double cheese burgers with the supersize fries, got me? (Hey, you said a tiny bit of hp) That money could go to your next go fast part.
#5- Dont get a chip from any company. They dont really do much, and a custom PROM will give you a lot more power then anything from hypertech or jet. Its a waste of money. For the price of one of thoes chips, you could get your own equipment, software, and be on your way to customizing your own chips/PROMs.
I probably left some stuff out, but you can find more tips if ya do a search. Do a search first before you ask a question, cause its usualy been coverd before. Just a tip so you can get some people to stop complaining. anyway
Welcome to the site, nice car! and happy modding!

Relocate your battery to the hatchback. That eliminates 30 or so pounds from the front and puts it in the back. Better weight distribution equals better launches.

Get a throttle body airfoil. They work. A few horses.

Full synthetic oil frees up a little horsepower if you've been using dino-juice.

Get a set of good plugs, low resistance wires, and a hi-perf cap&rotor kit. A high-perf coil won't hurt things either. All this ignition stuff is good for quite a few horses.

Definitely lose the chrome. I've never been a big fan of bras either. They trap moisture and deteriorate paint. I'd hold off on the synthetic oil. It can actually cause leaks by cleaning out your gaskets. Not worth it IMO unless you are desperate to shave a 1/10th of your 1/4 mile time. As for mods, just do a search for free mods. Plenty of 'em on our cars.

My vote for the best mod for your buck would just be a complete tune up. New rotor/cap/coil/wires/plugs/sensors etc...

You'll get better results with that than any cheap "mod"...

i fully agree a FULL tuneup will yield the most with the free mods coming next.
