MPG for 5.7 V8

Hey ya'll, I'm lookin' at Camaro's for the next vehicle, and I'm just wondering what kind of MPG you guys are getting in your V8's, whether it's 5.0 OR 5.7. I know what the EPA says but I don't buy it because they're not even in the ballpark on my truck. Thanks for any replies!

Well my car has like 120,000 miles and bad head gaskets (smoky startup after sitting over night) but other than that it's nice and tuned up and I get 16 mpg. Thats mostly city and some highway. I also drive it fast... a lot.

Car is in sig.

In my '92 I would average 20-21 city/highway, and could pull around 25-26 highway.
In my '88 with all the mods I would still average about 18 mpg, and could probobly pull 23 on the highway.

When I first got my 305 I was averaging about 13mpg city. That was in pretty poor condition. My 350 gets a little over 20mpg driving 75% highway, there is always traffic here in LA though, so city and highway driving are sort of similar

everyday highway/city driving I pull right at 20 mpg.

On this last trip home that ended in a totalled car, I was getting 24-25 mpg.

I'm averaging about 12-13 miles per gallon regardless of city or highway. Boy do I ever have to learn how to burn my own PROM so I can enable highway mode!

Ha...I had a 305 and that POS only got around 15mpg also. Go figure....almost 80 more cubes and the same mileage.

The LS1 got 30.12 MPG on the highway this week. I'm guessing my L98 would get around 22 MPG.

my 88' used to get around 18 city and 25+ on the road. on the OPEN road i drove pretty fast. i averaged about 100+ mph. it was an emergency! i'd imagine i'd get way better mileage going 70.

try replacing your O2 sensor, and if you haven't already, your plugs and anything else in the ignition system that's old and worn out.

on my 92 TPI 5.0 L, i was getting 12mpg city until i did the O2 (which never threw a code, but was 10 years old), and then i jumped immediately to 17. also try pulling the ECM fuse to reset the mixtures. it might help to have it re-learn them.

Patrick thanks for the tips however all of the parts are new. In fact this is the second O2 sensor I've had on this engine in 5,000 miles because I thought the old one was faulty. Also the battery has been disconnected tons of times so it has relearned pleny of times also.

Thanks though. I think my problem is in the chip tuning. I'm planning a cam swap and some port work soon so I'll iron it out after.
