86 305 TPI Single Fan Only Question
86 305 TPI Single Fan Only Question
OK, Chevy Gurus... maybe you can answer this one. I purchased a low temp cooling fan switch from Hypertech. Does not work with my application. "For 86-92 TPI motors with 2 Fans Only". Did not know this. I have a SINGLE FAN engine. There is a steel plug in the passenger side head where this thing would normally go.
Is there another way to install this? Or, do I have to get a different chip programmed? Or, is there another part that I can use?
I would like the fan to turn on at maybe 180-200 degrees.
Thanks very much. Jess

Exactly, send it back.
There are 2 ways (well, the right ways) to control the fan in your car. You can reprogram the chip to set it to a lower turn on temperature, or you can buy one of the many aftermarket electric fan controls. I got mine from Hayden, its a nice setup with a relay, wiring, fuse, and thermal sensor that you stick in the radiator fins. They also make a version that has a 3/8"NPT fitting for sticking into the engine, like that hole in the head where the plug is. Make sure you get an adjustable one if you go that route.
