upgrading to 86 computer/wiring harness
I have the computer and wiring harness, what else do I need to make it work? Any MAF stuff?
from 1985 IROC TPI to 1986 TPI out of camaro both puters are for a 305, my iroc has been upgraded to 355 w/ 24lb injectors.
Thanks,
Matthew

Never done the repin jobbie; can't comment there.
You shouldn't have much trouble doing the whole harness though; just make sure the dash to ECM harness connections are the same; should be really close to plug-n-play. Jumper pin M and pin E in the ALDL to each other so that all scan tools work.
Good luck w/ the project.

I did the exact same swap, and I've even got a 355 with 24lb SVO injectors.
I chose to swap harnesses instead of modify the 85 harness. I did it for a few reasons. One, I think it's easier to spend an hour replacing the harness than it is to spend who knows how long repinning the stock harness, running a couple new wires, then spending a week figuring out why it doesn't run only to find out that you swapped 2 wires. I wanted plug & play. I also wanted it to look stock, and just running a wire or 2 through the harness to look stock would have taken me longer than the whole harness swap took me.
Anyway, I used an 87 harness. If you're using an 86 harness, it's even easier. The 86 uses the same distributer and the same single cooling fan. As long as you have the MAF burnoff relay, everything else is a 100% direct swap. The burnoff relay will even bolt right to the stock 85 bracket on the firewall. The only modification you'll have to do is to make the hole in the kick panel a little bigger. The bulkhead for the 86 harness is approximately 1/4" wider than the 85 bulkhead.
Your stock 85 MAF will work with the 86 computer. It shouldn't, but it does. The 86 computer apparently has a buffer on the input that smooths out the pulsed output of the 85 MAF, and actually gives accurate airflow readings. When your stock MAF tanks, then you can worry about getting the newer style.
Dash to ECM harness connections are identical. I'm not sure why you'd need to jumper pin M and pin E. My auto x-ray scans the car fine with the new ecm.

I'm still working on tuning. I burned a prom that was more or less a stock APYP except for a few different constants. Right now I'm running pretty rich, but I'm not going to burn another prom until I get the PCV system hooked back up, because that's going to change everything.
