Is this a good cam?
Is this a good cam for my setup? I have no clue what Im looking for in a cam......I guess I could call COMP and ask them what they suggest..
i looking for a cam with some ummph!!! to go with what I have already done to my car...m in the process of getting headers so take that into consideration......

In my opinion, 214° on the intake borderline excessive for an otherwise stock 305. The headers will help, but keep in mind that a ZZ4 350 cid engine makes nearly 360 hp (over one hp per cubic inch) with only 208° intake duration. You don't need a wild cam (relatively speaking) to get good power. For a good streetworthy 305, I'd limit it to less than 210°.
The production 1996 LT4 Corvette cam, GM P/N 12551142, has 203°/210° and .476/.480 (with 1.6 rocker arms) and it was making 330 hp. You might want to look into that one. Or the ZZ4 cam itself with 208°/221°, .474/.510. These may not seem like big performance cams, but lift and duration are not the only story to tell. There's a lot to be said about the overall profile of the lobe, something which is not easily explained or understood (at least by me).
Some people may think I'm too conservative, but I figure, hey if I'm going to pull the engine and front end of the car apart to change a cam, I'm going to make sure that I don't go overboard and want to change it later.
Later on, some good mods would be to get a set of Vortec heads and the Vortec TPI baseplate from Scoggins Dickey. But check your smog laws first!
