damn cooling fan!!
I just got done with a 5 speed swap and I only have one thing thats driving me crazy. I tried the search and found no help so here goes, the cooling fan on the drivers side stays on the whole time the engine is running, but goes off when I turn off the engine so I know its not the relay. I thought it was the coolant or the intake air temp sensor that was bad telling the ecm that the car was running hot. I checked both of them, the one under the throttle body and the one in the intake. I changed the one in the intake (anyone notice its the same damn sensor for the coolant and the iat!!!) anyway that didnt fix the problem and my engine doesnt run as good as it did before I took it out
I ran the diagnostic with the jumper wire and all I got was a code 12 which I think means its ok. What else could be wrong? and is it the white wire that goes to the secondary fan swith near the starter or the one near the spark plugs? Help, Im leaving for florida tommorrow and I dont want to have to hook up a swith to the fan. Man that was long, heh, sorry and thanks for help!

On my '89 the driverside is the primary fan, controlled by the ECM, via input from the CTS. ECM controls the fan relay.
Can you verify if in fact it's the primary fan, or maybe the 2ndry fan? Reason I ask is that it seems there is no consistancy in how they were setup.
Anyway, locate the 2ndry fan switch, it's below and between #6 and #8 sparkplugs, in the head. Unplug the connector (key on, engine off) and insert a wire into the connector, touch the other end of the wire to ground. On my '89, both fans come on. If only one fan comes on, and it happens to the the pass side, then we know which fan we're dealing with, and diag can be a little bit different.
