Okay my friend has a 87 GTA with a 350 tpi. Now the moron tha had the car before him replaced the motor with a crate remanu. 350. the motors went from 350 to 305 back to 350.
Now after doing a few things on his car my friend ended up grounding out this one power wire for something but that ended up killin the MAF, TPS, IAC, ECM, coil, and ended up the car ran really lean to glow the headers and melt the tips off his new bosch platnum 4+ plugs. well after all that was replaced and everything the car was running but not great. so he replaced the EGR valve and well that didnt change much.
after pullin codes there wasnt any but the car still ran like crap(like a v6 almost). Well the big problem he has now is that the car is running really really really rich as if where u could kill misquitos with the amount of black smoke coming out. my brother replced his injectors becuz suposivly one or 2 where stuck wide open, so he got accel 23lb injectors. after replacing everything and whatnot the car was running good, no black smoke nothing bt the car still wasnt running right.
so figured it was the timing but since the car is now running crappy to where its dumping black smoke again. but cant get a good timming out of it becuz the timming is changing every min and the car could have a nice idle and then it goes to choppy/crappy idle to almost die.
the check engine light did come on but then went off after a few mins.
im clueless what the hell could be wrong with his car, also the O2 sensor has been replaced too.
if anyone can shot some ideas this way that would be great, mainly im sick of seein this car running like this and so is my friend. but basiclly everyone is trying to think of what could be wrong but its probably something simple, if anyone can help thanx. sorry about this being so long but my friend needs the help very bad.

For some reason I doubt its the CTS. Cant hurt to check, but the CTS isnt gonna make his timing jump like it does. I thing either his Distributor is shot or its the timing chain. The computer doesnt pick up any codes, he has a horrible hesitation, and from what i can tell, he has replaced the following: TPS, MAF, EGR, IAT, Idle control motor, injectors, and i think thats it. Ign control module, and a new coil. he has good plugs and wires, and the ECM has been replaced. Do you think that when he grounded the wire, he could have fried the prom itself? Or should we just Molotov cocktail the whole car.

Could you get a scanner hooked up to it to see if the coolant temp sensor is bad? Not sure how to tell if a prom is bad but you can get one for like $40 new from GMpartsdirect.com or get the equipment to burn your own for a few hundred.
