considering getting a ZZ450....?

im looking to get a complete new crate engine for my IROC and dont know what to get. i would like whatever engine i get to be supercharged so if i get the ZZ450 i plan to ATI Procharge it. does anyone know if this engine is prepped for a supercharger? is there anything that would need upgrading...like what?

i know that the intake on the ZZ450 is slightly diff than a normal TPI, does anyone know if the Holley Stealth Ram intake will bolt up? will i loose power or gain power?

my other option is a dual 4 bbl 406 that is blown 815HP 687 TQ.
i would really like to stay with a TPI, i do not want to go through the gas guzzling dual 4 bbl, but right now that engine is putting out the kind of power i want.

yes actually the ZZ450 is new, it is basically a ZZ4 with TPI. it is made be TPI Specialties. i wasnt sure if it was that new or that unheard of cause its been in some magazine i forget the name "car....somthing". but anyways its a crate TPI 383 Stroker with 450HP.

I've heard of a ZZ430 & a ZZ4, but no ZZ450, at least not from GM. With the ZZ4 shortblock available from GM, a lot of companies are building their own crate motors based on that shortblock. A ZZ4 crate motor should take 8-12 lbs of boost with no problem. The compression is a little high for a blower, so you may want to go with an intercooler & swap the cam for a more blower friendly one.

yea, this engine is based off the ZZ4 like i said. now the supercharger im looking into getting puts out 20 PSI. what would i need to change in a ZZ450 (ZZ4) so it can handle that type of boost pressure?
thanks

first off i'd like to ask what are you planning on doing with this car?

second do you know how much HP 20 psi would make? thats about 400 extra hp.

so to answer your question what would you have to do to the zz450 motor to make it work is:

deep dish pistons
way thicker head gasket
above needs to drop the compression ratio down to about 7:1-8.5:1 no more than that.
and alot more depending on parts that come in the zz450 motor which i'm sure is good but you might need different bearings.
lower lift cam to equalize the high boost along with huge intercooler.

if this isn't a full blown race car you are seriously wasting your money. you will have to rebuild the crate motor to make it streetable if it can even be made streetable.

good luck. you'll need it cause your looking at 10k+ that you'll end up blowing up in the first week at 20psi...lol
