Smog canister
Ok, the guy who had my car before me removed the smog pump and most of the emissions but left the canister hooked up. So in order to remove it i just cut the 3 hosed, plug them up and disconnect the wire, and just take the assembley out, right. I just want to make sure i got the right idea before i jump right into it. Oh, and any suggestions on what to plug them up with thanks.

First off you need to know what those hoses are for. Most of them you can leave plugged into the top part. The relay and hose deals disconnect from the canister. The one or two that don't can be plugged up. I used the heatsink retainers from a Pentium 4 CPU as they were the right size and blunted on both ends.
The largest line however is a fuel line. DO NOT PLUG THIS UP. You have to find a place to put it. It's just for fuel vapors. All you do is find a place at the bottom of the car so the excess vapors can exit.

Alright, i went out and removed the airbox and coolent tank(I found a very poor engine paint job under there,) but i took these off so i could get a better picture. So here it is. I was wondering if anybody can tell me what to do with each hose, this way i'll have a pic to go by kinda. Thanks

Trace em back. I think one of the fatty ones goes to the big port right behind the throttle plates on the TB, the small one ties in off a line that goes to the port on the back of the manifold, and the other fatty one is the vapor line from the tank. Like 87WS6 said, it needs to vent to atmosphere. Maybe put a small filter onto it to keep road crap out of it (like a crankcase filter or something similar) and hide it.
Take care,

just out of curiosity, why would you want to remove the cansiter? It only operates at cruise, so it does not affect idle or WOT operation. As I understand it, the canister is just to soak up smelly gas fumes from the gas tank, and feed them into the intake when appropriate. So if you remove it, you should start smelling gas. Especially on hot summer days.

Alright, sound pretty clear to me. Is there any other gains out of removing this, other than freeing up some space? What about any negative affects? Thanks

I see no need to remove it... you wont gain anything... unless you want to make some type of CAI to put there... id say dont fock with it.
Good rule of thumb... if it involves fuel... fuel vapors for that matter... then dont touch it.
