Against all Odds
Guys, I haven't posted much lately, because of my internet service being down at home. Now that school's started, well, here I am. Anyway I was thinking of selling and actually was going to sell my Iroc to a guy at work for $8,500. I was going to get a 01 Ram Air MN6 with the money plus an additional 5g's that I've saved. The deal fell through and the guy decided not to buy my car. So I've decided to keep my car after all and I knew I'd regret selling it after I sold it. I've decided that I'm going to use the money I have to get the engine right and maybe put a stick in it also. That way I'll have the best of both worlds, a 500hp thirdgen with a six speed.
I guess we all have down times when it comes to playing with these cars and I was kind of worn out after several rebuilds and nothing ever going right. But now maybe because of divine intervention, or just plain luck, I'm going to stick with my 6yr old second girlfriend (camaro) and I'm going to get this thing right. I'm also going to pay the $$ to get it done right. So wish me luck, my engine's sitting out of the car and rather than sell it in pieces, I'm going to have it put back together into one mean a$$ hunk of iron.
I'll keep you updated on the re-build.

LOL just to clear up things, I meant that my car serves as a second girlfriend that I've had for six years. And the reason it qualifies is because I've spent more money on the car in that time period than I've spent on chics in the past and on my present girlfriend. Sorry if the post was corny, it was supposed to be an inspirational, sentimental, load of bologna; aka crap.
After I saw teh 6 year old gf comment... I thought I wasnt at tgo anymore!! Anyway, thats cool man! 500 hp and a 6spd with a solid 12 bolt out back. Are you gunna go FI, carb? small block, big block? N/A or Power adder?
I wana do a pure chevy engine. I was thinking 400, but thats more of a pontiac. Anyone have an idea what it would cost to build a 427 small block?
Im thinking, 427 small block with forged internals, alum vortec or afr 195/200's, zz409 cam, 1.6 pro mags, 6spd, 12 bolt with 3.73's. I wana be in the 400 to 500hp range. If you really think about it, to be competetive with all the new cars coming out now like the 03 cobra, the Z06, the new Z06, LS1 4th gens, and some super-imports, you really need to be packin at least 400 out of the engine. I wana go with something retro kinda, but stay small block. 302, 350, 396, 427.. one of thoes Im really thinking about.

I'm keeping the setup that's in my sig., which means I'll keep the 383, N/A, and I'm staying FI, I'm going to keep the superram at first, until future dyno results and track times say otherwise. I may switch to a stealth or miniram. I do want about 400rwhp, but I'm wondering if it can be done with a hyd. roller and the superram. There's a couple of vette guys w/ superrams that put over 400rwhp easy, but they're running solid rollers and of course 406's.
Al, you're right about all of these new cars coming out. Even the new Mitsus. and Subarus are laying down mid to low 13's with 27?-3??hp **** skillets that produce the motivation. Then you got the Vipers, new vettes, and even the Cobras like you said, that are gonna be tough to outrun. Not that you see all these cars everyday on the street. I do though see my fair share of these cars at the local dragstrip and I'd like to be get some kind of reaction from them when I lay the smack down.
