fuel pump wiring...im out of ideas please help!

ok here's the deal. as some of you may allready know i have a 88 305 tpi in my S-10. well ive been having trouble tracking a bug in the wiring. there is an inline fuse somewhere in the system and i have no idea where it is and i cant find it. so here's my question. if i wire up my fuel pump to a toggle switch...a power and a ground will it be ok? if i just flip the switch to turn on my fuel pump before i start my truck then shut it off when i turn off the truck. this is only a temporary fix until winter cause im rebuilding it soon. thanks for the help

jared.

it would work, but you would be bypassing all the system safety's. Like fuel pump cutoff on low oil pressure start, or fuel pump cutoff in the event of an accident. So, if you wreck the car, you could potentially be dumping gallons of gasoline on a hot engine.

I guess the answer your looking for is yes, but it's not a good idea

So true, it's really not a good idea. The fuel system is one place you really need to make sure you do it right. I don;t have one, but find someone or a website that will show you the wiring diagram for the TBI system and that should show you the fus location. Just for craps and giggles, my 89 TPI has a F/P fuse up near the battery. I know you've got an S-10, bu assuming you swapped the entire harness, it might be in that direction.

On a different note. My S-10 is getting a V8 in the next year as well....

I'm playing the fuel pump relay game right now on my IROC...

I've got a medium blue 92swb with the 2.8 litre with about 190K and still going very strong. Paint looks bran new too. I'm probably going with the a 305 carbed or TBI depending on what I can find, 5sp and 3:43 rear end. I have a 4:10 rear end, but I'm thinking that will be a little much for what will more than likely be a daily driver of sorts.

well...it wasnt my relay. i dont get it though, my old one had to be junk i went to start my truck yesterday and i heard my fuel pump prime for about 2 seconds then it clicked off. i turned the key...it started and then stalled out. i turned the key on again and my relay was clicking on and off really fast and it woulnt stop just on and off on and off. my fuel pump is pretty new too so i dont think it would be that. im startin to get pissed here. someone help!!!

p.s. my oil pressure switch to engage my fuel pump is disconnected (has been for sometime now cause it woulnt clear my headers so i just pluged it.) but when i jump it my fuel pump should go on. it doesnt! hummmmm what's this mean?
