L98 Cylinder Head question

Well, im taking the motor in tomorrow to get the rebuild:-) It will be getting hot tanked and all the other *** stuff and bored over to a 355. Well, i jsut have one question. Due to lack of fund right now, i will be getting a 3 angle valve job on the stock l98. They will be complimented with a stealthram and a zz409 camshaft(or one with a very similar grind)Just wondering how much power i will lose oversay a pair of trickflow 23* heads. I will be suing the stock roller rockers i think unless i need new ones. Does anyone know what kind of hp it should pull say with the l98s. and what it would with a pair of trickflows

They will support up to 300 hp from the information I've gathered on iron L98 heads. These are the same heads on the autocenter 300 hp TPI crate engine and very similar to GM part number 10125377 used on 285hp crate engine. The set up you describe, the stock heads will be the weak point.

well with some upgraded rockers u guys think the motor would make some nice hp numbers. I mean the heads will come off in the future for either afrs or trickflows but just for now will it hurt me a hole lot?

I think from reading one of your other posts that your installing new posi-gears...that's what I would do 1st. But not with college money.

I wouldn't buy the zz409 cam to match tpi and L98 heads.
Might work w/ HSR or Miniram.
Valve job, new valvetrain hardware, and rockers will help...but not with that cam.

Edit: I see the HSR in your post, now. L98 heads will be very restrictive. I wouldn't put in that cam until you got other heads...or, choose a milder cam.

If your going to use the HSR, do some searches of grumpyvette for some good HSR topic discussions. Also, mrr23 has a stealthram website now.

For a break in...and using the 409 cam...I don't know. Computer may be out of whack too bad without proper tuning in the Eprom...if it can be uned at all.
