Horsepower Numbers...this make sense?

Ok...been running the moates software for a while. Basically looking at the power calculation code they are weight, distance over time (rwhp). I used a weight of 3800 lbs for my Firebird (3400+400 lbs of people (me and my buddy)). The horsepower numbers (average ) about 216. I basically took most of the higher RPM numbers and averaged them (numbers ranged from 200-229).

With a 20% driveline that's like 270 hp! That seems high based on my mods (cat back, slp runners, cai, custom prom (ARAP based). I don't even have headers. I was thinking stock 235, plus runners, cai, exhaust maybe I'd hit 255hp...
Best 0-60 time was 6.12.

What do you guys think?

There could be some engine mods here that I don't know about or maybe some calcuations are off somewhere (weight).

drop your weight by 200 - 300 lbs. Your car isnt that heavy.

Yeah I thought that the weight was a little high..but that makes the hp numbers even higher...(I tried it in the Moates Software)..

Programs are programs...they don't usually take a lot of things into consideration...but give you a decent estimate on what you have.

Couple of things to also consider, I think the Bird is actually heavier than 3400...and with an auto tranny, you have more like 25% loss...ya...increases your engine's net HP...but like you say, you're not sure really what's in it.

Plus, there's the "Factory Freak" factor that a few SD L98's have that get's them high 13's, without too much work.

Best thing (and funnest too) is to take it to a track and see what it wil run...get it wieghed (most scalles will only charge a 6-pack since you don't need a "certified weight") and plug the numbers in to the many HP calculators on the web.

If you LOWER the weight and it says you have HIGHER HP then that program isn't very accurate.
I think if you want real data then you should get it dynoed.

Sorry about that..i wasn't clear...higher weight = higher HP, but I guess without the weight being accurate its hard to gauge...really just wondering how close it really is...even some of the newer devices like a g-tech rely on weight being accurate.

Eventually I will get it to a dyno and the track and I guess we will see....I'd love to get it weighed and dynoed and then check the program..I'll bet its pretty close +/- 5% when the weight is on...

I wanna got to the truck stop by my house and see if I can get an accurate weight...
