just got a tpi setup.. questions..
I just bought a complete tpi system minus the harness and ecu for 80 bucks.. i plan to put it on my fairly modded 350 in place of a my 750 dp and plan a cam swap in order to make my car emissions compliant and get some mpg.. my questions are to convert to an lt1 intake what will i need to do besides elongate the center 2 holes on both side of the intake (my heads are early 70's castings) and have it machined for a dist hole? also what will i need to do to eliminate the egr system?

because 80 bucks was a decent price and the stock tpi intake is one of the biggest pos flow restrictions in the system along with the runners... as far as needing egr to pass nj inspection, i've never had a visual.

Ok, you state that TPI is a flow restriction...you're right. You said you want an LT1 intake....cool. Then why did you waste $80 on something you don't want/like or won't use?
As for the mods to the LT1, i think all you need to do is like you said, elongate the holes and machine a distributor hole. Sounds simple enough, but it's got to be perfectly positioned on the intake or you'll have oil pump drive issues. I'd have John Millican do it If I were you. Check out lt1intake.com

i figured i'd at least need all the sensors, tb, 87+ style smaller dist with remote coil etc, for 80 bucks for the complete system it didnt seem like too bad of an idea since i could always sell the parts i dont use (plenium, runners, etc) one thing im not clear on, with the lt1 intake would i need the fuel rails for that or would my tpi fuel rails be useable?..... on another note the lt1 intake swap will probably be proformed in the future, but the tpi system will be swapped onto the car long before upgrading to the lt1 parts... i want to make the stock setup as decent as possible, along with porting the plenium, is it worth porting and gasket matching the stock intake? it appears to have a fairly decent amount of metal to it.. also are the runners even portable? they already seem to be the thickness of a soda can.. lol

You have to use the LT1 fuel rails, they have the proper crossover between the rail, and mounting is probably different, as for gasket matching the base, it depends on your heads, the stock base won't even seal to a 1205 intake gasket, so you can imagine what kind of flow potential is there...and as for the egr, you just need a block off plate, and have a chip burned with the egr flag turned off so u don't throw a code.

To answer your questions, 85TransAm406 summed it up. Good luck with the project! Thread
