EGR deleting: pros/cons

I scored a set of L98 aluminum heads for $150 with 60k on them, never played with and might be buying the L98 block they came off of too(90'Vette) as well. Either way I want to use these heads on my 305 or the 350 and am pretty sure I would rather delete the EGR function than get a Vette TPI intake and take a torch to my pricey jet-coated headers.

The car does not need to pass emmissions although I have everything hooked up properly, including the EGR now. I know to go about it is to have a chip burned that doesnt read the EGR function or whatnot, but are there any negative effects to deleting the EGR? I dont want to lose mileage or anything that effects driveability if I can help it. I know it might not help emmissions but not sure exactly what I would notice with it gone. Anyone whos done this have any feedback or tips? TIA.

For all the hype about the benefits for running EGR, I have yet to find any. Other then in emissions.

EGR delete or not, to get your car running it's best, takes doing your own chip. Not by phone, but actually doing one taylored to how you drive, and what you want.

I ran those same heads for years, EGRless, without a problem.

Thanks for the reply. Did you notice anything once the EGR was gone? Worse mileage, etc? Or were there too many other mods done at the same time to get an accurate measurement? .

I noticed the engine was more prone to knocking under load, and of course the SES light would stay on.

30 seconds with a laptop and it was all fixed.
