is there a tag or code i can look to see what gears i have. a friend if mine checked it by turning the tires and says there 3.23's.the car is all original.

 

Should be a metal tag on the Diff with a code on it, its an RPO code. Getthe code and go to the main page for TGO and go to the RPO decoder and put it in there.

 

Does your car have a rubber plug in the cover for the diff?? If so on the drivers side in between two bolts there should be a tag which will give the ratio.

 

MY 86 HAD 3.23 RATIO FROM FACTORY.

 

As did mine (with an open rear). Caused alot of trouble when I thought it was 2.73s and ordered gears and such for a swap thinking it had a 2 series carrier...

 

If it's still there, look at the sticker on the inside of your center console lid - it should have a GU5 code. My car was a GU5 car from the factory.

 

I have an 86' and mine has 3.23 gears from the factory the why I found out was counting the teeth and after I did the math I seen that the number of teeth for the ring and pinion gear where stamped on the ring gear

I read on another forum that the autos with 2.73's counld not manually put the trans in first with out taking out some blocking plate in the console is this true?
