cam and heads for 305 tpi

i just bought a 86 iroc with 40k miles and i'm looking to do the heads and cam on it. what would be the better choice a stock set of heads redone or a set of sr 305 heads ported and polished. and for cams should i put a roller in it or a flat tappet cam. i'm going to use the stock intake on the motor . ported base and plenum. i'm not looking to make this a race car just a good running street car. thanks for any input

The stock casting all nice and hogged out should net you a decent improvement. As far as the cam goes I am still up in the air myself but you will need a flat tappet for and 86 unless you want to pay fro the retrofit lifters. You might want to consider some headers first my hedman lt's netted me three tenths and 2 mph alone.

I don't know if they still offer it, but Summit Racing use to sell a camshaft and computer chip just for '86 TPI engines that was supposedly worth 30-40 horsepower, and i don't think it was that expensive.

i heard that ported and polished stock 305 heads are sufficient and will give u nice power, but a couple companies make great, cheap replacements, the most popular being World...

why do u want an lt1 intake? it should take away ur torque advantage of the tpi and lose low end power and get u a little high end power that u dont even need and will never see...IMO
