Don't know where to place this....but anyway...
While my '92 Formula is immobile with the bumper and both headlights out, I figure now would be a fine time to fab up a cold air intake! First, I'm sure someone has attempted this...mind telling me how exactly you did it?
Here's my idea...find or fab something to fit over the oval throttle body, then buy pre-bent metal tubing like that of mainstream CAIs and have my friend weld them together. Follow stock routing but either find or make a hole to put the filter outside the engine compartment. I may also get some clothesdryer tubing stuff to make a temp, or to get an idea of just how it will work.
Any comments or suggestion?

i cut all that plastic crap out from under the air filters, and slid some 8" ac ducts between each filter to each fog light. took out the fog lights cuz they weren't working, but you dont have to do that. noticed a SOTP difference the moment i got on her. might as well get a tb air foil while your doing the cai. click the link below, thats what i based my idea off.

dj haf, I don't quite understand what you're talking about. It sounds like your Camaro already had dual filters, and all you did was add tubing to where the foglights were. My Firebird is a bit different...it only had a single filter on the passenger side.
I'm basing my idea off of this:
Basically either get an OEM elbow to the throttle body, then tubing, a 90* elbow, more tubing into a hole I'd cut underneat where the stock filter was, then a K&N.
Here's how she stands right now:
Not sucking the coldest air, eh?
Do y'all think 1/5" thick 3" PVC piping will stand the underhood heat? Or should I look for aluminum piping instead?

Well, I may not be building an intake after all. I'm getting another daily driver, then start a different project. Possibly a 350 Fiero? or a 350 240sx?

I bought the TGR CAI and knocked off over two tenths in the quarter mile. It makes a huge difference over the stock setup. Since the front end is removed, you might want to consider a cam swap.

Stokdd, GM high tech performance tried a throttle body air filter like you have and lost over two tenths in the quarter, and if I remember correctly, around 13-15 horsepower at the wheels, and that was barely better than the stock routing. The problem with the position of the air filter is that when the hoods closed, the motors sucking in a bunch of hot air off the radiator, and if you have a maf that setup is just not feasable anyway.

Yeah a ram air setup with a box and filter positioned at the ram air portion of the hood would work well, but a filter on the tb, is just not the best for performance, it will work, but not the best.
