ideas on fuel issue 88 gta??

I have a 88 GTA 5.7 tpi auto, it runs fune during normal driving conditions, but when the fuel level gets down to the last 2 or 3 bars (digital cluster), it bogs when going around corners even at a fairly leisurely pace. I have checked the pressure with the tank at 1/4 and 1/2 levels, and it seems ok, 42+. Car runs great all the rest of the time, so the pump doesn't seem to be weak in general. Can the pickup come loose in any way or be moved to cause a fuel pickup problem like this? Thanks for any ideas in advance.

That is a problem with some of these cars, when a tank gets really low. The pump is exposed and can't transfer the fuel properly because it is sucking some air. That is why it is not recommended to let the tank get too far below 1/4 full. It also cause the pump to wear out faster since it uses the fuel to cool it.

I see, I didn't realize that it was a common occurance. I will heed your advice from now on about the level. Thanks

Mine does it all the time (when it decides to run). I never let it get below 1/2 because of this.

Also, this is really bad for the pump. The in-tank pumps use fuel to lubricate them and keep them cool. When they are uncovered and run dry it will eventually ruin the pump. Always try to keep your tank at 1/3 full or more. Replacing the pump is a royal PITA.
