Will Bowtie Heads bolt up to my TPI
Will Bowtie Heads bolt up to my TPI
Ok,
I have a massively ported set of Bowtie heads these are the 80's racing gm over the coner ones. They are 034. Know my question is I am plaining to due a Lt1 manifold swap. Will the LT1 mainfold fit.
I guess the really question is that does the 034 heads have raised runners like the vortex and fast burn?
I heard that these where the predisors to the vortex heads.
Thank you,

Will the LT1 bolt up? No
Will it bolt up w/ modifications? Yes
The LT1 intake has be swapped over to older motors alot lately. The outer 4 bolts bolt up fine, but its the middle 2 that dont line up and have to be drilled out on the intake to line up w/ the heads. Also the LT1 is a reverse flow coolant system so u have to run a hose from the coolant port in the intake to the radiator and have a t-stat in there some where also. Theres alot of articals on this swap in here just lok around and search.
As for the heads boltin to ur TPI depends on what year TPI u have. If you have 85/86 TPI they will bolt up no problem. If u have 87+ u will have to grind ur 2 center bolt holes to match the bolt holes on the heads.
any more questions just ask

Can't answer your question about the LT1 intake but. . .
When I placed a stock TPI intake on a set of "034" Phase II Bowtie heads you could just see the top of the intake port. So, I'd guess that a massively ported set would have way to tall of a port. I actually have a stock TPI intake that has the whole upper runner area welded to work on those heads but went with different heads and intake so I never used it. $50.00 worth of welding!

LT1 (alum & iron), L31 (Vortec), LT4 and Fastburn (clones of LT4) heads were all derived from the last series of Bowtie heads, Phase 6 I think, incl the raised runners and the combustion chamber shape.
So it really depends on how new the Bowtie heads are. Early 80s might be too old. You might also have issues with the angle of the intake manifold bolts. HTH.
