Knock sensor
Knock sensor
I am currently in the process of building a motor for my 89 it is a 89 L98 block 10:1 pistons total seal rings the cam is 230 244 @ 0.050 lift 112 degree centerline installed at 108 4.69 intake lift .499 exhaust (custom grind) Roller lifters are stock and i have a 3 piece noise gear drive setup.... the heads are 88-91 cast 1.94/1.50 valve heads that have been ported bowl blended gasket matched k-line bronze valve guides the vavles have been unshrouded and they have been cc'd Now i know that this will not work with the stock knock sensor so my question is is there a safe way to disable it what could happen if i do. I know motors very well so i will know if there is an issue, my computer doesnt have to, but i know my timeing is computer controlled and the knock ties into the timing, thanks in advance Matt Manglos

It would need to be disabled in the PROM. See the DIY PROM forum.
I could have sworn there were a few guys running a quiet gear drive with a knock sensor. But I really have never researched it since a gear drive is a zero horsepower added noise device, so I personally don't care.

Is that a knock sensor or a coolant temp/overhaet sensor your speaking of, I dont remember on that engine, but the coolent overtemp switch(normaly pass side head) and the knock sensor
(normaly located on pass side block coolant drain hole) look the same, they are the only two on engine that are the same connector,
Ive seen guys running with the knock sensor sitting in the glove box, and are ok, but i would think that you could relocate it to an efficent location, you can usualy see knock sensor doing it's job by tapping on block(anyware) and watching ecm retard timing,
dont cake on too much thick sealer when installing, cuz it tends to deaden It's ability to see noise/knock
