those with hi flow intake base...

i'm in the process of installing my accel and have a few q's.

i noticed on the back the coolant ports are open unlike on the factory base. is this gonna affect anything? why is it some intakes are sealed back there and some aren't? i have a set of gaskets with the rear holes cut to let the coolant thru.

on the elongated holes, since the bolt heads will only cover one "side" of each hole and the other side will be open, will oil creep up on to the intake if i dont fill the rest of the hole with something?

also where do i get a felpro 1205 gasket? i have been to parts stores asking for this gasket but they can't find the #. instead it shows felpro intake gaskets but with totally different #'s.

TIA

I have had my accel intake on for almost 3 years now, and about 30-40000 miles. Oil had not creeped up the bolt holes. I have also had it off once in that time. No problems so far.

I don't know about the coolant ports in the back.

ok so that's where you get the gaskets. i thought these could just be bought at any parts store.

i'm guessing the open ports in the back wont affect anything then, but i'd still like to know why some intakes are open back there and some are closed like the factory TPI base.

Some parts stores will have the gaskets, some won't. You don't necessarily have to order them just from Summit or Jegs. Especially if you are just getting one thing. Sucks to buy one part and have that $9.95 handling fee just for that one $10-$15 item. There any speed shops, hot rod shops, etc around you? Call them up. Sometimes machine shops will have them too, if you get the right place.

I can't remember if the BigMouth from TPIS had the open ports, but if they do, never had a problem in about 15k miles.

I got my FelPro 1205 gaskets from AutoZone. Two different stores both had them (picked up a spare since we're pulling the intake to install the 383 this weekend)
