Putting LT1 Cam Into a Stock LB9 - OK?
Hello All!
I am back in the TPI realm. Been away for awhile, and happy I'm back.
I have an 87 IROC with the stock 305 TPI (LB9) motor and computer and chip. It is and automatic with 2.73 gears. It needs the head gaskets replaced. So, while I have the motor this far apart, and after reading some information on these boards, I have decided to install a LT1 cam from an 95 Z28. I know other changes will also increase performance, but this one I can address now.
My question is this (and YES, I searched the forums before asking!).
Does this cam work with a stock computer and chip? Or will it cause any problems? Will I have any emissions problems?
From my searches, I believe the answer is yes it will work with the factory compuetr and chip, and no it will not affect emissions.
Thanks.

ya it will work fine. Since u have ur heads off might as well get them ported n polished or get soem high performance heads and get some headers to get the most out of ur cam.

Thanks for the info. Are you running this combination, or know someone who is?
I may port and polish the heads, but headers will have to wait to be added.

Not really a combo is it? All you are doing is swapping up to a slightly more aggressive cam, and cleaning up the stocker LB9 heads. I think it should work well because it is pretty basic and safe. For one, the LT1 cam isn't far off from the Lb9/L98 cam, just a little more aggressive. Secondly, the heads are going to be improved LB9s. Everything still matches, but breathing has been significantly improved - nothing radical but you'll definitely see significant gains.

Depends on your definition of "combo". To me, the LT1 cam and LB9 motor is a "combo" because it is not stock, and is a new combination of parts to me.
As to the rest of the post, I thank you for you helpful input on the matter.
