ok i just posted about my fuel pump relay. i got that put in and it starts and runs good with no hesitation. but now when i put it in gear the car shutters and quits. so i looked up in the troubleshooter part of the scanner and it says it could be the torque converter clutch solenoid. has anyone had a similar problem? it says its under the transmission side cover. that doesnt help me much though.

 

If you're going to change it, you might as well change the transmission filter also. It is inside the transmission oil pan. There is a four prong connector for it on the drivers side of the transmission case just aft of the shift lever that you could check for broken wires or loose connection.

 

ok thanks for you help trickster. how much does the solenoid cost? i also heard that if you disconnect the 4 prong connector and take the car for a drive and it doesnt do it thats confirmation thats the problem. am i correct with that? im gonna get a new filter and some synthetic fluid for it.

 

I see from your signature that you have several 3rd gens. Which one has the problem and I will send you the diagnostic chart for it.

 

lol i do have a lot 3 that run and 5 for parts. one of my parts cars is a 83 base model bird. the origional 2.8 blew with only 30 some thousand on it and the person never fixed it. i have had it for years. its in really good shape. interior needs help though. iwant ot fix it up for a drag car. anyways back to the trany problem. i just unhooked the 4 prong connecotr and it never stalled once and it cleared the check engine light. so im gonna get a new one and do a trany filter service.
