Car not idling right

Well whats happening is when I start the car up it wants to rev up to about 1500 for awile but if I put it in gear then it will drop all the way to 500. But once i drive it for a little while then it runs perfect. The only mods I have done si a better flowing air intake (ducts off of an 88 formy and an air foil) And I have deleted my cat. Could it be my O2 sensor?
