Rp(rochester products) and CAV "style" injectors, what is the difference.
these are lables on the side of factory 5.7 injectors.
the knowledge i am seaking is what is the difference between these two injectors, and would the be compatible together
I have 1 leaking injector, advanced auto sold me an injector for $38.00 and it says CAV on the side It is made by GP sorington, my factory injector has RP on the side. when i called the dealership, they spacifically asked me if my original injector sayed CAV or RP on the side of it, the RP was significantly more expensive so i belive there would be a difference. advanced auto also had a "bosch injector" for $90 for sale special order.
Im very interested in reading any knowledge you gentelman could share with me, archive searches reveild mixed information.
such as .lucas=CAV, and being a stream spray injector, Bosch=RP, being a self vaporizing injector
Red=Hear/say info NOT FACTS
Thank you,
Shiffs

"The black injectors with the green stripe that you are referring to are manufactured by Lucas. They are a "disc" type injector and were installed on some F-bodies and also some Corvettes in late 1986 thru 1988. There were also sold by ADS and also Tomco as aftermarket replacement injectors. They will normally have the letters CAV on them but not always. The earlier Rochester injectors that were installed from the factory have the letters "RP" on them and are all black with no silver band or green stripe.
I've heard the same thing from other sources that the Multecs from 1989 thru 1992 aren't worth having serviced.
Hope this helps straighten out the confusion."~88blackgta
found some more info!
Compatability tho???

Lucas was/is a british company that deals with ingition/fuel injection for the european car makers. (jaguar being right there at the top of the list). They have an absolutely lousy reputation. Their systems are amazingly unreliable, and have been since the old Triumph motorcycle days. Don't recognize that name?? That's because the Lucas ignition systems on them were so bad, that they could not sell them, and the company folded up and blew away.
Also, if you ask any Jag owner what they think of the reliability of their car, be prepared for a tirade.
I will admit, that they have done some things right, but, they are few and far between.
Bottom line..... Stay away from them.~ploegi
hmmm interesting...
