distributor gear worn badly,LT1 intake doing it or...

I have 155k miles on my original distributor and the car has been stumbling and cuts out at 4500 sometimes and was running kinda rough,I pulled the distributor and the gear on it is worn very badly very thin sharp teeth. Is this normal for how many miles are on this dristributor.I have had an lt1 intake on it for about 4k miles and its from john has the new designed shim on it and everything.Tell me what you guys think.thanks

The only differance the intake makes when talking about distributors is the installed height. Nothing about the intake can effect the alignment of the distributor, the engine block does that.

You say the distributor gear teeth are worn sharp? Is the wear centered or at the top only or the bottom only?

Lastly, why havn't you contacted me direct about this problem? Didn't you think I'm there both before and after the sale?

John I have very high doubts that it has anything to do with the intake but i am not sure if anyone else has had any kind of problems like this after the intake.I mainly put that in the subject so that it would get peoples attention. The gear is worn evenly around and top to bottom.I know you sold some of youre first intake without that new shim and did they have any problems with alignment or uneven gear wear, just out of curiosity.Anyways i know that if i came directly to you you would help me out i just want to get a lot of opinions.

The new shim was to take care of an oil leak, not align the distributor. You are not moving the distributor with the intake hole. If the intake hole wasn't in the right place the distributor wouldn/t go in. Like I said before the engine block sets the angle of the distributor and gear mesh. I am attaching a picture for clarity.

You might have a cam type/distributor gear type problem. I am not 100% sure but there are roller cams that need a special distributor gear or rapid wear will occur.

that pic really helps me out thanks.I think the cam is not what did it but probably the high mileage on the stock distributor. It has 155000 on it now so.I have a comp cam and have never heard of the gear needing to be changed for there cams but i could be wrong. Thanks john for the pic.
