Is the 870 ECM worth it?

I am planning on putting a 350 in this car soon but have not decited what kind of injection I will be using. I just wanted to know if the 870 ECM was good enough performance wise to keep? I know I will not be able to data log near as good. But oh well. And what kind of burning hardware do they sell for it? If I do not keep this ECM then I will probaly go Ram Jet 350 crate

I you plan on doing some chip burning I would switch to the '165. The '870 is slow. The equipment is about the same for all the ECM's. You will need an adapter for the '870 that you will not need for the '165. I plan on getting a '165 and having the Prominator installed on it. What part of NE Georgia are you from? I grew up there.

I Also have a 870' and when I first joined here I asked questions about using it and nobody wanted to help they all said switch to a 165', Well after hours and hours or reasearch I am going to switch over to a 165'.

The 870' will work but it has a slow 160 Baud ALDL, The MAF Burn off Relay is piggy backed to the ECM and if it goes bad they are anywhere form $400+ New.

1. The 165' uses normal Relays that can Be baught Reasonably priced like $10-$30 or are easly found in most junkyards
2. The 165' has had alot of people Using it so there is more support and knowledge available for (From what I have seen)
3. There is already WB hacks for Some of the $6E Bin's
4. You can use your 870 harness for the 165' Just follow the directions Here
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap/

5. If you go to a junk yard you can find the 165' in a few different vechicles for around $20-$50 (go here to see CrossRefrence) But you will also need a V8 MEMCAL (I thank Rbob for pointing out this CorssReference to me)

Well switching over to a 165 is the route I am Taking
Just my .02

I had my 870 ECM out the other day and there was no MAF burn off relay Only a big sticker with the ECM PN on it. Could it have broke off and got stuck up there or am I in trouble?

There wasn't even a mounting plate on there for it to mount to.

Should have took pics

But, yeah I am also considering the 165 swap but i afraid I will get something wrong and the car not start. Bacause when I looked at those repinning charts I was completely confused. but I guess if I had it all and actually looked at it it would be easier to understand.

this is the MAS module for MAF burnoff as I understand it

Yeah the repinning chart on mike davis site is kinda confusing, I understand the repinning but the 2 splices are what is throwing me at the moment. It kinda looks like you could just take the injector Bank 1,3,5,7 and put them on 2,4,6,8 and Take the original ones from 2,4,6,8 and plug them into 1,3,5,7. NOT QUITE SURE BUT I AM RESEARCHING. PLEASE NOBODY TRY THIS I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THIS YET.

Yep, I am missing that. I think but I have not searched under the dash yet.

Do guys think I will be able to tune the 870 for a 350 stock engine with headers? About 280 HP.

Or do you think it would run good with a 165 ECM and a stock 350 chip? Even with headers?
