Starting Problem

When I try staring my car all the starter does is makes a clicking sound, I have read up of this problem from previous threads. I have check voltage at the battery and the starter and its fine so that eliminates bad starter and fusible links, right? (has a new starter in it) So would you guys think it is the nutral safety switch or my vats? Any help will be greatful. Thanks.

Hello John,

The problem wouldn't be the VATS or Park/Neutral switch. Check out this chart. Also John, just because the battery has good voltage, it does not mean that it has the amperage to start the car. Have someone measure the voltage while you try to crank the car and see what the voltage is.

Ok, I checked the voltage at the battery terminals (12 volts) and when I try starting the car it jumps to around 7,8 or 9. So does this mean I need a new battery?
