takes long to idle down

well ive owned a few cars and theyve never taken a full 3-4 minutes to idle down even in the summer. when i start my car after ive driven it for 4 times that day i have to wait about 40 seconds for it to idle down to 700 in park around. it doesnt race or go real high it sounds normal but it stays at like 800 for a long time befor kicking down. i run 10w30 and ive sprayed my intake with tb cleaner. any idea why it takes so long even in the summer to warm up? thanks

hey dude, my car does a similar thing. i have an 88 camaro SC with an 85 TPI engine. whenever i start it, it idles REAL high, like, 1700 RPMs, then steadily drops down to normal. It likes to stick at around 1000 rpms. i've NEVER been able to find the problem. if it isn't giving you any codes or problems, i wouldn't worry about it. i never worried bout it too much, and my car runs perfectly fine. could be your RPM gauge. it could also be the IAC sticking. i was told that's what was wrong with mine, but even after replacement, it still does it. oh well; just a couple thoughts for ya there.

My 85 Does the same thing and I have found no cause for it. I think each time you start the car it must have to relearn the IAC motor and that is the reason for the delay.

I adjusted the idle air set screw on the throttle body (drivers side) and the idle went up to what you are describing...
