The L82 was a 70's Corvette engine. It had the 350HP 350 cam (.450/.460 282/282 IIRC) with 9:1 Compression. Forged pistons, 76CC combustion chambers, 1.94/1.50 valves. It should run ok with TPI. The power should be comparable to a low compression ZZ4.

If you were to put some 64CC aluminum heads on the engine it would make for a very nice motor.....

hey 89305RS dont be so suprised. late 70s corvette L48 and L82 motors are just as much of a boat anchor as a stock 305 is. but just like a 305, they can run good with a little work.

i think the L48 had about 180 horse, and the L82 made about 220. by the way did you know that the california emissions vettes got 305s??

I sure don’t remember any 305 ‘Vettes here in The People’s Republic of California (PRC).

As far as 15.7’s go, that is easily understood. My car only ran 15.65 when I first put the 350 in it. No modifications are listed for the car so it may be totally restricted intake and exhaust wise. That leads me to ask a few questions:

1. What size exhaust are you running?
2. Do you have headers?
3. Do you have an exhaust cutout ahead of the CAT
4. Have you gutted the air box underneath the filters?
5. What size injectors are you running?
6. Are you running a 350 chip?
7. What is your timing?
8. What are your shift points?
9. What’s the stall on your converter?

You will need a 3” CAT back and headers to take full advantage of that cam. The cutout lowered my ET’s by 2 tenths. Opening up the air box cut a couple of tenths as well. Are you running 305 injectors or 350? (19 vs. 22) I would recommend at least 24# injectors “minimum” with that cam. What chip are you running? If the car was originally a 305 car it may have a 305 chip in it. A 350 chip will help but you will need a custom chip to even dream of getting everything out of that motor. Do you have your timing set at 6*? That’s fine for the stock cam but not even close for the L82 cam. I would kick it up to 10* for starters. My ZZ4 likes 16* but it loses too much low end for the gearing I have, the car actually runs faster in the ¼ mile with the timing set at 10*. Admittedly I need to do more testing at 12*....... What RPM are you shifting at? That cam makes power to 5800 RPM. Of course if you have a totally stock TPI unit, you are probably dead at 5K to 5200 even with that cam. Try switching to a large port base and larger runners. Of course if your exhaust is stock, nothing is going to help much. A 9.5” 2800 lockup stall converter would work really well with that cam. IMHO of course..... There are far more knowledgeable people than I on this site...

Didn't he just say he's "looking" at one, as if he's THINKING about purchasing it, and that he more than likely doesn't have it yet?..
