power guesses on my new 383
It's been about a year since I posted here but I have my new motor ready and I'm eager to try it out! I get the chance in 2 weeks.
Any power guesses?
383 stroker, late 4-bolt roller
block honed, deburred and screened oil galleries, fluxed/tanked
HT383 3.8" stroke 4340 crank, 4.0" bore
moly rings
4340 I beam rods
dished HT383 pistons, hypereutectic
(special)
cc306 cam
1.6 NSA pro mags, 7/16 studs
Comp 977 springs and AFR rev kit
Lloyd Elliott converted LT1 heads, fully worked (11.5:1 CR)
LT1 ported intake
double roller timing chain
new HP melling oil pump with shimmed relief spring
stock HT383 windage tray
hedman longtube headers and borla catback
58mm BBK TB
A/C delete, high flow aluminum water pump
no tune yet, running through modded MAF TPI
will be running through a T-56 and 12 bolt
I know the headers are small but they're what I have, and I'm considering an LS1 swap before I buy a crossmember and another set of headers...I figured it was time to get the damn thing done after 3 1/2 years of changing my mind! Can't wait to drive my car after 4 years!!!
A couple mags did some lower CR testing on the HT383 and got 500 ft.lbs and like 460 HP. I'm sure I'll be a little lower, I just want torque mostly for now. Any guesses?

That was my guess. I would have went bigger with the cam but with the runner size of those heads and since I'm still using that damn MAF I figured it wouldn't make too much sense. At least this way it'll be fun as hell to drive out of a corner!
what's the 1/4 worth?
This thing sounds like a monster! It should be capable of getting into the 11's right? I think all this waiting is sure going to pay off extremely well. Good luck to you and your new awesome engine.

I'm guessing mid to low 11's naturally aspirated on drag radials. Later if I choose to spray I'll have some custom pistons made. I'm going to a 12 bolt because I want to be able to run drag radials and/or not have to worry about grenading the rear. In any case, the motor is set up pretty much for cornering, has alot of weight reduction, and should be a blast.

I couldn't find your cam listed on Comp Cams website. So I don't know the specs. I find 11.5:1 CR hard to believe with dish pistons but I'll take your word for it. I got 461 HP and 507 TQ using desktop dyno with my cam specs.

it's known as a cc306, but I dont remember the comp cams part number. it's a 230/244/112 with .510 and .540 with a 1.5 rocker (I have 1.6). The LT1 heads I chose because they were aluminum, flow well when ported, were cheap, fit the LT1 intake bolt pattern, and have small combustion chambers to match my dished pistons which are like a -18cc dish. I run a .015" head gasket and the heads are further machined to be smaller. It's between 11.3 and 11.5:1. My castings were thick so they were able to be ported a little more. I have maybe $120 in the heads and intake which includes comp 977 springs, retainers, 10 degree locks, ferrea 2.00/1.56" stainless valves, 7/16 studs and machine work.
With the small runner heads and that cam in the 383, it should be a damn good midrange engine easily capable of low 12's on street tires, mid 11's on drag meats with *** driving and 10's on a small shot of N20. I figured it made no sense o go with a bigger cam since I'm running on the ragged edge of the limits of MAF TPI anyway. At least the car is light as hell
I just wish I knew how light.

Okay, with your cam specs 464 hp and 504 tq, but it is dependent on what the heads truly flow. If they can flow as good as a set of AFR's it shows 490 hp and still 504 tq. So, it's how good are your heads ported. Large tube headers only showed a 8 hp gain.

Sounds awesome. Lloyd say they flow in the 270+ range since they were thick and could be ported more. PRobably flor about 190 on the exhaust side. I think what hurts most is the fact that the headers are hedmans so they're only 1 5/8 longtubes.
Nice thing about this motor is it only cost me maybe $2500 including the bottom end. I need to get a chip burnt still though. I'm pretty sure it wont run on a stock 89 TPI tune.
